Events for December 2022

The Germantown Historical Society display will feature the following family names :  Albers, Brockmann, Horstmann, Husmann, Kreke, Linnemann, Micheel, Robben, and Warnecke.

Tuesday, December 13th: Holiday Craft Night – 6:30 We will read holiday stories and make an ornament.  If you are not able to make it that night the crafts are available as a take and make while supplies last.

Lego Club: Fridays at 4:00 – December 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.

Events for November 2022

Come check out the Germantown Family History display at the Library.  Photos from the late 1880’s through the early 1900’s will include surnames such as Albers, Beer, Budde, Eversgerd, Heidemann, Kreke, Lakenburges, Langenhorst, Leonard, Linnemann, Ripperda, Schoendienst, and Welling.

Tuesday, November 8th – 6:30 – Backward Book Club.  You don’t read the same book as everyone else to be a part of this club.  Come talk about your favorite book or author.  Inspire others to read something new.  All ages welcome!!

Thursday, November 17th – 7:00 Family Reading Night- Read Beyond the Beaten Path.  Join us around the campfire for stories, crafts and lots of fun!!

Friday, November 25th – Black Friday Fun Day – We will be open 1pm-5pm.  Stop by anytime during the day to play games, do crafts, work on puzzles, and create something amazing with our collection of Lego pieces.

The Library Board of Trustees has an open seat!!  Application packets can be picked up starting September 20, 2022.  The filing period for the election is December 12-19, 2022.  Stop by the library or call 618-523-4820 with any questions.

News for October

The October board meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 11th at 6:30 pm.

4th Annual Library Crawl – October 1st-31st, 2022.  Stop by the library to pick up your library passport.  Get your passport stamped at 5 or more libraries and bring it back to the library.  We will enter your name into a drawing for a prize when the library crawl is completed.

Upcoming Events

The Germantown Public Library and the Germantown Historical Society have teamed up to present a Cemetery Walk on Saturday October1st at 10:00 am.  Join us at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Germantown, IL.  Learn about the history of the cemetery, the history of Germantown and the people who settled in the area.  All ages welcome.

We’re thrilled to announce that the new streaming service @watchbiblioplus is now available for free with unlimited access to our library patrons! Sign up with your library card at www.biblioplus.com to start streaming their selection of films and TV series today!

The biblio+ app is available for download on Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV), Android phone and tablet, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku, or stream directly from www.biblioplus.com .

The library will be closing at 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 11th.  The librarian will be attending the Open House at Germantown Elementary School.  If you are attending the open house stop by the library table to update information, fill out an application for a library card, or have your questions answered.

Parents of Germantown Elementary School students – If you are not able to attend the open house please call the library at 618-523-4820 to update information on your child’s account.

The August board meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 18th.  The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm.

Broadband Internet Survey

The Accelerate Broadband Committee within the Kaskaskia College Region on behalf of the Clinton County Board has prepared a survey to determine the need for expanded broadband service. The link to the survey is https://illinoisaces.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eqSTPXzoGJMSZkG

If you know of someone who does not have internet access at home, please let them know the library has paper copies of the survey they can complete. The library also has computers for public use if they would like to complete the survey online.

Every household that completes the survey will be entered into a prize drawing to be held in late July.
